A Luxury LGBTQ-Friendly Escape in St. Lucia

St. Lucia has a way of delivering the kind of Caribbean trip that feels cinematic without trying too hard. There are lush hills, calm bays, dramatic coastline views, and resorts that make it very easy to slip into vacation mode. On this trip, I split my stay between two very different all-inclusive properties: Secrets St. Lucia Resort & Spa and Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia.

One offered a large adults-only luxury experience with multiple restaurants, pools, and a sprawling suite. The other delivered a more intimate boutique atmosphere in one of the island’s most beautiful bays, with a strong wellness angle and a laid-back sense of exclusivity. Together, they gave a well-rounded look at what a luxury St. Lucia getaway can be like, especially for LGBTQ+ travellers looking for comfort, romance, and ease.

If you are planning your own Caribbean escape, this trip is a good example of how to combine upscale resort time with just enough island exploration to get a feel for St. Lucia beyond the beach chair. And if you like this kind of itinerary, you may also want to browse more Caribbean travel inspiration.

Secrets St. Lucia Resort & Spa

The first stop was Secrets St. Lucia Resort & Spa, described as the largest adults-only luxury all-inclusive resort in St. Lucia. For travellers who want the convenience of having nearly everything in one place, this kind of resort setup can be especially appealing. There is a sense that once you arrive, your only real task is deciding where to eat, where to swim, and whether the next stop should be the spa or the bar.

The room category made a big difference here. Staying in a Preferred Club bungalow meant access to an impressively large suite with a separate living room, bedroom, and not one but two bathrooms. The layout felt more like a private residence than a standard hotel room, and both the bedroom and living area came with ocean views.

Even better, both spaces opened to a private pool. That kind of setup changes the rhythm of a stay. Instead of needing to head straight to a main pool deck every time you want to cool off, you can ease into the day at your own pace with the water right outside your door.

The Resort Experience

Secrets leans into the classic luxury all-inclusive model in a big way. Around the property, there are nine restaurants in total, including five à la carte gourmet options. That gives enough variety to make a multi-night stay feel fresh rather than repetitive.

As expected, drinks are part of the package too, with bars throughout the resort and unlimited food and beverages included. For travelers who want a low-friction vacation where meals and cocktails do not require constant planning or budgeting, that all-inclusive format is a major plus.

The property also has three pools:

  • Two pools open to all guests
  • One pool reserved for Preferred Club guests

That Preferred Club access adds another layer of privacy and calm, which can be especially nice on a romantic trip or honeymoon.

There is also a gym for anyone hoping to offset at least a portion of the vacation indulgence, plus a spa with a sauna, steam room, hot tub, and treatment menu that includes massages. In practice, it is the kind of resort where you can be as active or as inactive as you want, and both choices feel fully supported.

LGBTQ+ Visitors to St. Lucia

For LGBTQ+ travellers, St. Lucia is a destination worth understanding with some nuance. Homosexuality was decriminalized in 2025, and the island has held Pride celebrations since 2019. Same-sex marriage is not yet legal, but travelers can still choose resorts that welcome LGBTQ+ guests and accommodate symbolic ceremonies and honeymoons.

That distinction matters. Legal recognition and social climate do not always move at the same pace, so choosing the right property can make a meaningful difference in how relaxed and affirmed a trip feels. For anyone thinking through those considerations in advance, these LGBTQ travel safety tips may also be helpful.

At a resort like Secrets, the atmosphere is built around romance, leisure, and service, which makes it well suited to couples celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or just a luxurious Caribbean break together.

Visiting Pigeon Island

Not all of St. Lucia’s appeal is behind resort gates. One of the easiest ways to add some historical and scenic context to a luxury stay is by visiting Pigeon Island.

Despite the name, it is no longer an island. It was connected to the mainland in the 1970s. And despite the name, pigeons are not exactly the main attraction either. What makes it worthwhile is the combination of manageable hiking, wartime ruins, and sweeping views.

The hike is relatively short and easy, making it accessible for many travelers who want an excursion without committing to a major trek. Along the route are centuries-old ruins and old cannons still facing out toward the sea. The site carries the layered history of colonial conflict, particularly the struggles between the French and British for control of the area.

It is one of those places where the scenery does most of the work, but the historical atmosphere gives it depth. You are not just getting a lookout point; you are stepping into a landscape that still shows visible traces of its past.

Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia

For the second half of the trip, the stay shifted to Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia, a AAA Four Diamond boutique all-inclusive resort set in the striking surroundings of Marigot Bay. The location alone gives this property a very different feel from a larger resort complex. Instead of scale being the headline, the bay itself becomes part of the experience.

From the balcony, the view is one of the resort’s defining features. It is the kind of setting that makes even quiet downtime feel like an activity.

The room here was a master suite residence, with a separate living area, kitchen, large bedroom, spacious bathroom, and two balconies overlooking the bay. Once again, it was far more space than strictly necessary, but that is part of the charm of a luxury stay: room to spread out, room to linger, and room to enjoy the destination without feeling confined.

Why This Resort Feels Different

Where Secrets offers breadth, Zoëtry emphasizes boutique character and wellness. The resort has five à la carte restaurants and four bars, including a rum cave where guests can book a rum tasting and pairing experience. That kind of feature gives the property a stronger sense of personality and place.

There is also a noticeable wellness focus. The resort does not have elevators, which certainly encourages movement, and it sometimes offers yoga classes in addition to a gym. The spa here is outdoors and designed with treatment huts, adding to the feeling that relaxation is built into the landscape rather than separated from it.

pA facial was the treatment of choice during this stay, and it fit the overall tone of the property well: restorative, unhurried, and quietly indulgent.

If upscale resort stays are your thing, it can also be worth working with a travel advisor who knows how to match personality and property style. I use Joseph Hallett at Fora Travel to help with planning, especially when perks or upgrades are part of the strategy.

LGBTQ+ Inclusivity At These Resorts

Both Secrets and Zoëtry are presented as very welcoming to LGBTQ+ travellers, and that was backed up in a concrete way. Zoëtry displays a plaque in its lobby showing that it is Queer Destination Certified, and Secrets is in the process of receiving the same certification.

That certification matters because it indicates staff training around serving LGBTQ+ travellers respectfully and inclusively. It is a practical sign that inclusivity is not being treated as a vague marketing line. For couples and solo travellers alike, those details can directly affect how comfortable and at ease a stay feels.

In a destination where legal and social change is still evolving, seeing resorts take those steps is encouraging. It helps create the kind of environment where guests can focus on the experience itself rather than wondering how they will be received.

Mud Baths And Waterfall Experience

From either Zoëtry or Secrets, it is possible to join a boat-based island excursion with Joy’s Adventure Tour. This kind of outing adds a very different side of St. Lucia to the trip and makes a strong case for leaving the resort, at least for a day.

The route includes several memorable stops.

  1. Sulphur Springs mud baths: Volcanic mud is applied to the body before rinsing off in the baths.
  2. Toraille Waterfall: A cool, refreshing stop that helps wash away the rest of the mud.
  3. Marine reserve: Crystal-clear water for snorkeling, swimming, or relaxing on the beach.

The mud bath stop is one of St. Lucia’s signature experiences. There is something both fun and slightly chaotic about fully covering yourself in volcanic mud.

Then comes the shift to the waterfall, where the rinse becomes part of the experience. The water is chilly, but in the Caribbean heat that can be moreso invigorating than uncomfortable.

You can find experiences like this on Plannin – the platform I recommend for booking your travel excursions!

Snorkelers floating in clear blue-green water in a St. Lucia marine reserve

The final stop in the marine reserve rounds out the day nicely. After mud and mineral baths and a waterfall rinse, getting into clear blue water for snorkeling or simply stretching out on the beach feels like a reward layered on top of a reward. It is the kind of excursion that combines activity, scenery, and novelty without feeling rushed or overplanned.

Staying Connected

One practical detail that often gets overlooked until arrival is mobile data. Staying connected while traveling can make everything easier, from navigation and restaurant research to coordinating transport and sharing photos in real time.

For this trip, the solution was an eSIM from Saily, which avoids the hassle of searching for a local SIM card after landing and helps reduce roaming costs. Instead, the data plan can be downloaded directly through the app before or during the trip. If you want to set that up for your own travels, here is a Saily deal for a 15% discount off their already low pricing!

Which Resort Is the Better Fit?

Both resorts deliver luxury, all-inclusive convenience, and an LGBTQ+-welcoming atmosphere, but they suit slightly different travel styles.

  • Choose Secrets St. Lucia Resort & Spa if you want a larger adults-only property with more dining options, multiple pools, and a classic high-end all-inclusive feel.
  • Choose Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia if you prefer a boutique environment, beautiful bay views, wellness-oriented touches, and a more intimate atmosphere.

Or just split your time between the two like I did! Either way, St. Lucia works well as a destination for couples, honeymooners, and even single travellers like myself, who want to blend resort comfort with a few memorable island excursions. The island offers enough activity to keep things interesting, but it also supports doing very little at all, which is sometimes exactly the point.

Final Thoughts

St. Lucia makes a strong case for itself as a luxury Caribbean destination with real variety. You can spend one day in a private plunge pool, the next exploring historical ruins, and the next covered in volcanic mud before rinsing off under a waterfall and snorkeling in clear water.

That balance is what gives the trip its appeal. It is not just about beautiful resorts, though both of these deliver that. It is also about the range of experiences packed into a relatively easy island getaway: history, scenery, wellness, food, romance, and a growing sense of inclusion for LGBTQ+ travellers.

For travellers looking for upscale relaxation with a little adventure on the side, St. Lucia is easy to recommend.
